Seasonality

Seasonality allows connectors and clients to provide season-specific content within the Infocenter. This page explains the overall concept and how seasonality is handled for images and other content fields such as description texts.

Seasonality is intentionally not automatically derived from dates or months. Depending on the client or promotion logic, seasonal content may start much earlier or differ completely from common seasonal definitions. The client must therefore decide explicitly which season to request or display.

Image Seasonality

Season Tags for Images

Images can be tagged to indicate that they are meant for a specific season. Two season tags are currently supported:

  • image-saisonality-summer
  • image-saisonality-winter

These tags allow clients to include images that are suitable only for a specific season. Images without any season tag are considered season-neutral and are included regardless of the selected season.

Filtering Images via the Infocenter API

The Infocenter API allows clients to filter images by season using the parameter:

photoSeason=summer
or 
photoSeason=winter

When this parameter is applied:

  • Only the images tagged for the requested season plus all season-neutral images are returned.
  • Images tagged for the opposite season are excluded.

Season-Dependent Main Image Handling

If the main image (as defined in the content metadata) is excluded because of the season filter - for example, the main image is a winter image but photoSeason=summer is requested - then:

  • The system automatically selects the first image in the filtered image list as the main image.
  • This ensures that a valid primary image is always available.

Seasonality for other fields (e.g. Description)

In addition to images, other fields can also be defined per season. Connectors may provide season-specific variations of texts or metadata by using scoped field definitions, for example:

  • winter-scope-de
  • summer-scope-en

This allows a connector to supply different content depending on both season and locale.

Current Status

At the moment:

  • No existing connector delivers season-specific texts.
  • The concept is defined and ready for adoption by connectors.
  • If no season-specific version of a field is provided, the default text is used.

Summary

Seasonality in the Infocenter enables clients to control which images and content are displayed depending on the current seasonal context. It offers:

  • Explicit seasonal image tagging (image-saisonality-summer, image-saisonality-winter)
  • API-level filtering via photoSeason
  • Automatic fallback handling for the main image
  • Optional per-season field definitions for adaptable content
  • No automatic month-based season switching to allow client-specific logic and promotional needs
